BLUES PUNCH TICKET TO OUA SEMIFINAL

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues badminton team punched their ticket to the semifinal of the 2026 OUA Badminton Championship with a 9-1 win over the TMU Bold at the U of T Athletic Centre on Saturday (Mar. 7) morning.

After winning Pool A with three consecutive 9-1 wins, Toronto will be coming off of a quarter-final bye and take on the York Lions on Sunday (Mar. 8) morning at 9 a.m. Live stats are available here.

"I am really proud of our team's performance over the first two days," said Varsity Blues head coach Brian Tjoa. "We've battled adversity, stayed composed, and met the challenges as a team. All of our athletes should be proud of their performance."

The Blues were able to set the tone of the try early on with a commanding doubles win by the duo of Clarence Chau and Emma Meng. First-year sensation Asher Bedi continued his impressive showing with a singles win over Aidan Siow. U of T stayed in full control, winning the first nine matches of the try before the Bold's Enoch Song and Rye Chiu-Smith picked up a doubles win to get TMU on the scoreboard.

Now, U of T will shift their focus to the semifinal on Sunday morning with gold and bronze medal matches scheduled for 1 p.m., as the Blue and White's quest to defend their gold medal continues. "As group, we are trying to stay in the moment," Tjoa said. "We are focused on all the little things that will contribute to achieving our goals."
