BLUES TRACK AND FIELD RAMPING UP AT YORK OPEN

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues track and field teams competed in the York Open this weekend (Feb. 2-3), earning 11 podium finishes throughout the two-day event.

MEN'S RESULTS:

For the No. 4 nationally ranked men's team, Aiden Grout claimed victory in the high jump, claiming first place overall with a leap of 2.11m.

Earning the Blues another first place finish, Emmett Bravakis sprinted his way to the top of the podium in the men's 300m, posting a time of 34.14.

In the field, Justen Denman placed third overall in the men's long jump with a best of 6.71m.

Mason McGregor placed third overall in the men's heptathlon, scoring 4620 points which saw time just 40 points back of the silver.

Mathias Gelber took third in the men's 600m, delivering a time of 1:23.56.

The Toronto men's podium finishes were rounded out by a first place result in the 4x800m relay with the group of Gelber, Nathan Castanheiro, Jabez Siu, and Jacob McLean posting a time of 8:08.41.

WOMEN'S RESULTS:

For the No. 6 women's track and field squad, the Blues saw impressive results in the field events beginning with Blues veteran Emma Dale. The high jump specialist placed first in the high jump with a leap of 1.72m, tying for the best leap in U SPORTS competition so far this season.

Phoebe Price-Roberts also picked up a first place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 17.40m, marking the second best distance achieved so far this season by any U SPORTS competitors. 

In the women's long jump, Jasmine Lew placed third overall with a jump of 5.68m.

The Blues impressive field results were rounded out in the triple jump as Kristen Shultz's best of 11.56m placed her third overall.

On the track, Jade Lenton captured third in the women's 300m, posting a time of 41.09.


The Blues continue their busy competition schedule next weekend (Feb. 9-10) with several runners heading back to Boston for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, while the majority of the team will make their way bake to Windsor for the annual Windsor Team Challenge.
