Concluding competition at the 2024 OUA Track and Field Championships on Saturday (Feb. 24), both the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's teams finished fourth overall at the provincial showcase event in Windsor, Ont.
Adding four OUA medals on Day 2 of the championships, the Varsity Blues men scored another 47 points to lift their two-day total to 76 points. Toronto trailed behind Windsor (101.5), Guelph (151), and first-place Western (170.5).
Meanwhile, the Blues women secured a gold medal on Day 2, finishing out the OUA championships just nine points back of third place with 61 total points scored. The provincial podium consisted of Windsor (70), Guelph (175), and OUA champions Western (185).
Both the Blues men and women will next head to Winnipeg, Man., for the 2024 U SPORTS National Championships scheduled for March 7-9.
WOMEN'S RESULTS:
In her first season competing with the Varsity Blues, Phoebe Price-Roberts delivered OUA gold, finishing first in the women's weight throw to open Day 2 of competition at the Dennis Fairall Field House in Windsor. Price-Roberts gold medal winning throw of 17.08m came on her final attempt of six throws, marking the only competitor in the field to clear 17 metres on the day.
Contributing to the Blues team points total with a strong showing in the women's weight throw as well, Voke Ewhrudjakpor placed fourth with a best toss of 14.92m.
Picking up three more Top 10 performances in the women's 600m, the Blues saw Julia Boutin place fourth (1:33.93), Brooklyn McCormick finish sixth (1:34.86), and Katherine Vuckovic take ninth (1:37.70) in the early afternoon final.
Shifting back to the field later in the day, Blues high jumper Emma Dale was one of only four competitors to successfully clear 1.69m. However, based on a count-back with faults she would place fourth overall.
And in the sand, both Jada Roach and Kristen Schulz saved their best for last, with the pair placing fifth and eighth in the triple jump based on their last of six attempts. Roach reached the top five with a leap of 12.11m, while Schulz delivered a jump of 11.56m in her final jump into the sand.
MEN'S RESULTS:
Earning a third consecutive OUA gold medal in the men's high jump, Aiden Grout secured first place in his signature event by clearing 2.06m on his very first attempt. Grout will enter the national championships in two weeks once again as a medal favourite.
Joining Grout as a Day 2 individual medalist for the Blues, sprinter Brandon Tang earned bronze in the men's 60m dash. In the highly competitive event, which required both preliminary and semifinal heats, Tang secured the hardware with a run of 6.88 in the seven-person final.
Tang then joined teammates Caiden Schultz, Adam Exley, and Emmett Bravakis in the 4x200m relay, seeing the squad race to an OUA silver medal with a time of 1:29.50.
Both Bravakis and Schultz would then also double-up with teammates Moses Aidoo and Nick Trieu for the 4x400m relay, closing out the championships with a final gold medal for the Blues with a run of 3:20.68.
Additional top performances for U of T men ib Day 2 included a fourth-place result for Mason McGregor in the men's Heptathlon (4668), a sixth place finish for Linden Liles-McCurdy in the men's triple jump (14.38m), and an eighth place for Luka Stoikos in the men's shot put (12.92m).
