DISTANCE RUNNERS COMPETE AT DAVID HEMERY VALENTINE INVITATIONAL

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues track and field team sent a select group of distance specialist back to Boston, Mass. this weekend (Feb. 9-10) to compete in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational.

WOMEN'S RESULTS:

The Blues duo of Christina Esposito and Julia Boutin raced in the women's 1000m, placing 7th and 15th, respectively. Esposito's time of 2:46.75 proved to be over five seconds faster than the winner of the women's 1000m at the Windsor Team Challenge this same weekend, while also marking the eighth best time by a U SPORTS competitor so far this season. Meanwhile, Boutin's time of 2:51.05 would have also been faster than any runner in the final of the event in Windsor.

MEN'S RESULTS:

Competing against NCAA Division I opponents, Blues veteran Brandon Raftis took to the track in the 3000m open category, placing 110th with a time of 8:21.91. The fast paced event would have seen Raftis place first among U SPORTS competitors at the Windsor Team Challenge this same weekend.

Blues teammate Ben Shore claimed 64th overall in the men's 3000m unseeded event. Shore posted a time of 8:35.60 which would have placed him Top 5 among U SPORTS competitors at the Windsor event.

Toronto will conclude their invitational schedule at two events next weekend, hosting the Hal Brown Last Chance Meet at the Athletic Centre (Feb. 16-17), while sending some to the Guelph Last Chance Meet in Friday, Feb. 16.
