MEN'S WATER POLO GOLDEN AGAIN

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's water polo team defeated the Western Mustangs 18-9 in the National Collegiate Water Polo (NCWP) gold medal match on Sunday (Dec. 1), maintaining their championship winning streak.

The victory marked the eighth straight conference championship for the Varsity Blues, and first in NCWP competition after shifting to the conference this fall. The gold medal also marked the 37th for U of T in men's water polo program history, dating back to the first championship banner won in 1926-27.

Toronto entered the championship weekend as the No. 2 seed overall, finishing the regular season with a 9-2 record. Both season losses came at the hands of the Mustangs, of which the Blues were able to avenge the losses when it mattered most in the Sunday gold medal match.

In the pool, second-year attacker Omer Sayli earned Championship MVP honours, while Ali Sayli garnered Outstanding Goalie honours. Meanwhile, head coach Emre Tali was named Coach of the Year in just his first season at the helm of the Varsity Blues men's water polo program.
