The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's water polo team returns to Kingston this weekend for the National Collegiate Water Polo (NCWP) Championships, hosted by Queen's University from Nov. 28-30.
U of T have been dominant in the pool this season accumulating an 8-0 record versus NCWP opponents. With 20 or more goals in five of those wins, the Blues have been able to outscore their opponents 167-65, building a plus-102 scoring differential.
Last fall, Toronto captured their eighth consecutive provincial title and 37th championship banner in program history. This year they will be looking to add to those totals with a strong returning core which includes nine student-athletes in their junior or senior seasons wearing the Blue and White.
Leading the way for the Blues will be the dynamic duo of Omer and Ali Sayli. In 2024, the brothers combined to win both major championship awards as Omer took home Championship Most Valuable Player and Ali received Championship Most Valuable Goalie. Additionally, second-year centre forward Bowen Moravek has had an immediate impact on the Blues lineup earning NCWP all-star recognition in his rookie campaign last fall while also competing with the Canadian junior national team at the U20 Men's World Championships in Croatia this past summer.
The Blues enter the championship showcase as the No. 1 seed, earning a bye to the semifinals scheduled for Saturday (Nov. 29). Medal matches will then take place the following day.
