The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's swimming team narrowly fell to the McGill Martlets at a dual meet in Montreal on Sunday, November 10.
Â
The defending national champion Blues faced off against a hungry Martlets squad that took advantage of a younger Blues team, graduating nearly half the roster over the last two seasons. The meet saw back-and-forth action in which no team was able to take a lead of more than a few points for the entire day.
"This can certainly be described as an upset as it's the first time we have lost a meet - including dual meets, tri-meets, OUA finals, or national championships in over four years," said Varsity Blues swimming head coach Byron MacDoanld. "We were so excited by the meet though that we have already started discussion on how to make it an annual home-and-away event in the years to come."
RESULTS:
McGill 209.5, Toronto 195.5

Fourth-year backstroke specialist Angelica Bath led the Blues with two wins, taking home the top spot in both the 100m (1:02.62) and 200m backstroke (2:15.07).
