SCHROEDER JOINS VARSITY BLUES SWIM PROGRAM

The Varsity Blues women's swimming program is pleased to announce that Katelyn Schroeder has signed her letter of intent and committed to competing for the Varsity Blues beginning in the 2023-24 season.

A backstroker from Langley, B.C., Schroeder joins the Blues program having already competed in international events.

Schroeder was a finalist at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships this summer, which featured the top 18-under swimmers from Australia, Canada, Japan and the United States, in the 100m backstroke and was national junior champion in both the 100m and 200m backstrokes.

"Katie is an outstanding talent as seen by her gold medals this summer," said Varsity Blues head coach Byron MacDonald. "We have a good legacy of backstrokers at U of T, with Olympic medalist Kylie Masse and now U SPORTS standout Raili Kary, Katie will continue that string of elite backstokers."

"Attracting top swimmers like Katie is critical aspect of the Blues' drive to the national title."

Now preparing to the make the trip east, Schroeder is looking forward to being a part of U of T.

"I am most excited to join the Varsity Blues for not only their excellence in the pool, but their excellence in the classroom," Schroader said. "It is an honour to be part of this family, and to join what seems like second home."

Students who sign a letter of intent and/or commit to Varsity Blues intercollegiate teams will be eligible to play at the University of Toronto provided they are academically admissible and have applied through the normal process with the Ontario Universities Application Centre.
