The University of Toronto Varsity Blues track and field team competed in Day 1 of the annual Windsor Can-Am Classic on Friday (Jan. 12) night inside the Dennis Fairall Field House.
MEN'S RESULTS: The Blues men kicked off the event with a remarkable performance by third-year sprinter David Adeleye, who earned first place in the 60m hurdle with a U SPORTS national championship qualifying time of 8.10.
Fourth-year jumper Linden Liles-McCurdy achieved success as well, securing second place in the men's triple jump finals leaping a distance of 14.03m.
Rounding out the men's results were the relays. The team of Anton Mlynczyk, Chris Stamadianos, Moses Aidoo, and Nick Trieu placed second in the 4x800m relay with a time of 7:46, while the squad of Emmett Bravakis, Brandon Tang, Adam Exley, and Adeleye finished third in the 4x200m relay with a time of 1:31.
WOMEN'S RESULTS: Topping the women's results on the first day of competition, the Blues 4x800m team of Brooklyn McCormick, Katherine Vuckovic, Julia Boutin, and Christina Esposito placed third with a time of 9:14.
The Blues also saw Alexzandra Throndson place fourth in the pole vault (3.75m), Jada Roach sixth in the triple jump (11.59m), and Voke Ewhrudjakpor seventh in the shot put (11.85m).
Up next, the Blues will remain in Windsor for Day 2 of the Can-Am Classic which will begin on Saturday (Jan. 13) morning with the weight throw at 8:30 a.m., before the track events commence at 10:30 a.m.
