In an exciting Saturday (Sept. 23) afternoon showdown at Varsity Stadium, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's rugby team earned their second win of the OUA season with a 24-18 result versus the visiting Waterloo Warriors.
Improving to 2-2 on the season, both victories for the Blues have come on home turf this season.
A back-and-forth contest versus the Warriors, Toronto were first to score courtesy third-year scrum half Sadie Kabhrel.
Waterloo responded just six minute later with a try of their own, but a powerful interior run from fourth-year prop Liane Catibog put the Blues back into the try zone and a successful convert by Megan Kennedy-Spence allowed U of T to take a 12-5 advantage into the half.
Following the break, Waterloo were quick to add to the scoreboard, taking a one-point lead after a successful penalty goal and another try.
Propelled by the home crowd, the Varsity Blues bounced right back with another two tries from Tristan McElrea and Emma Yang to secure the win.
The Blues will look to maintain their home field advantage facing the McMaster Marauders next Saturday, Sept. 30 at Varsity Stadium. Kick-off in the regular season home finale is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
