WONNACOTT JOINS TRACK & FIELD IN 2023-24

The University of Toronto track and field team is thrilled to announce that Hayden Wonnacott has accepted his offer of admission and committed to competing for the Varsity Blues, beginning in the 2023-24 season.

"Carl and I are overjoyed to welcome Hayden to the Varsity Blues family," said Varsity Blues assistant coach Rostam Turner. "Hayden is an incredibly hard working young man, whose commitment to both academics and athletics makes him a perfect fit for our program. We are eager to witness his growth and contributions as he joins our young and developing sprints crew in the fall."

A 6-foot-0 sprinter from Markham, Ont., Wonnacott comes to the Blues from Bill Crothers S.S. There, he won the York Region Athletic Association (YRAA) 400m title in 2023.

A member of The Speed Academy, Wonnacott won the 2022 Athletics Ontario 400m hurdles gold medal, while claiming bronze in the 400m. He was named to Team all-Ontario in 2022.

"I chose U of T because it has one of the best engineering programs in Ontario, a competitive track and field program, and, most importantly, it felt like home when I visited. I knew I would be happy spending the next four years of my athletic and academic journey at U of T.   I'm really looking forward to training with the team, learning some new challenging material, and getting my first taste of the university experience."

He will begin his studies in chemical engineering this fall.
