BLUES SHINE AT THREE MEETS THIS WEEKEND

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues track and field teams competed at the Brockport Multi Invitational, Kane Invitational and York Open this weekend (Feb. 3-4).
 
Brockport Multi – Brockport, N.Y. (Results)

 
The Blues dominated the field events in Brockport. Toronto placed 1-2-3-4 in the women's pole vault with two-time OUA and U SPORTS champion Alexzandra Throndson leading the way. The Toronto native cleared 3.90m to win the event, while Quinn Miller (3.50m), Bryn Walsh (3.50m) and Zoe Petkovic (3.20m) finished right behind her.
 
Jasmine Lew took the top spot in the women's long jump with a distance of 6.22m, while Kristen Schulz was third (5.58m), Jada Roach was fifth (5.58m) and Megan Bryson was seventh (5.41m). Roach went onto win the women's triple jump with a best jump of 12.02m, while Schulz was second (11.98m) and Bryson was third (11.10m).
 
Eric Che won the men's long jump with a best jump of 7.45m. Ryan Denman was fourth (6.90m). Femi Akinduro won his signature men's triple jump with a best distance of 15.04m. Che was second in 14.39, while Linden Liles McCurdy completed the Toronto sweep, placing third (13.91m).
 
Cam Bruce won the men's heptathlon with 4962 points. The fourth-year finance and economics major placed first 60m (7.16), 60m hurdles (8.05), long jump (6.81m) and pole vault (3.80m), second in the high jump (1.85m), sixth in the 1000m (2:58.99) and seventh in the shot put (10.11m).
 
Reigning OUA and U SPORTS men's high jump champion Aidan Grout won his signature event, clearing 2.16m on his second attempt.  Emma Dale won the women's high jump, clearing 1.69m on her first attempt.
 
Brynn Miller earned a third-place finish in the women's pentathlon on Friday. The first-year chemical engineering major from Milton, Ont., finished the five-event competition with 2896 points. Miller placed first in the high jump, clearing 1.56m, second in the shot put (8.85m) and long jump (5.02m), fifth in the 60m hurdles in 10.20 seconds and eighth in the 800m (2:45.33).
 
Jarod Manuel finished third in the men's weight throw with a best throw of 15.54m. He also placed 10th in the men's shot put (12.80m). Voke Ewhrudjakpor placed seventh in the women's shot put (11.08m).
 
On the track, Christina Esposito (2:53.72), Julia Boutin (2:56.68), Katherine Vuckovic (3:01.13) and Jasmine Brar (3:12.10) finished 1-2-3-4 in the women's 1000m, respectively. Andrea Barker also placed second in the women's 600m in 1:41.08.
 
Robert J. Kane Invitational – Ithaca, N.Y. (Results)
 
Emmett Bravakis led the Blues in Ithaca. Bravakis won both the men's 200m and 300m races, running 22.19 seconds to win the 200-metre event, and clocking in with 34.01 seconds to finish first in the 300m.
 
Caiden Schultz placed second in the 300m (35.30) and third in the 200m (22.54).
 
David Adeleye won the men's 60m hurdles in 7.91 seconds, while Adam Exley was sixth in 8.28 seconds.
 
Onome Gbinije won the women's 60m dash in 7.47 seconds, while Kei-Shawonna Mayenge was seventh in 7.86 seconds.
 
Sophie Levasseur (5:12.66), EJ Boston (5:14.43) and Sarah White (5:15.44) finished 1-2-3 in the women's mile, while Jade Lenton won the women's 600m in 1:34.16.
 
Luiza Lena and Paulina Procyk placed second and third in the women's 60m hurdles in 8.76 and 8.81 seconds, respectively. Procyk led a 2-3-4 finish in the 200m, crossing the finish line in 26.04 seconds. Lenton was third in 26.37, while Emily Wilke was fourth (26.53) and Maya Ryan sixth (26.69).
 
Ryan finished third in the women's 300m in 41.99 seconds, with Wilke (42.54) and Megan Torrance (42.73) finishing fifth and sixth.
 
Jake Leung was fifth in the men's 60m dash in 7.00 seconds flat.
 
York Open – Toronto, Ont. (Results)
 
A trio of Blues men were at York, racing in the 600m. Mathias Gelber led the Blues with a sixth-place finish in 1:23.00. Chris Stamadianos (1:23.85) and Shan Dhanoa (1:23.93) were ninth and tenth, respectively.
 
UP NEXT: The Blues are slated to travel to Boston, Fayetteville, Arizona and Windsor, Ont., next weekend.
