BLUES OFFENCE SHINES IN VICTORY OVER WATERLOO

After an intense back-and-forth game, the Varsity Blues men's hockey team squeaked out with a 5-4 victory against the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday (Nov. 4) night in Waterloo, Ont.

The first period was a scoring frenzy, with Warriors forward Liam Fedak opening the scoring five minutes into the game. Second-year forward Zack Smith responded a minute later with the Blues first goal of the game.

The Warriors went up by two with back-to-back goals from Nate Bierd and Max Neill, bringing the score to 3-2. With under a minute left in the first period, first-year forward Julian Recine scored his first goal of the game and narrowed the gap going into the second.

Second-year forward Nicholas Wong crossed the puck to third-year captain Cole Purboo who tapped it in and tied up the game. Neill quickly responded for the Warriors putting them up 4-3.

With under a minute left in the second period, captain Purboo returned the favor to teammate Wong, who perfectly placed the puck behind Warriors goalie Dan Murphy, and secured the equalizer.

The third period was met with plenty of penalties for the Warriors, giving the Blues the advantage they needed to take the lead. Off of a power play face off, Recine scored the Blues fifth and final goal of the match, sealing the victory.

The Blues are back in action on Thursday (Nov. 7) morning when they'll face the York Lions. Puck drop is set for 11:15 a.m. The game will be streamed online via oua.tv.
