FIELD HOCKEY STIFLE YORK IN HOME WIN

Facing off for the second time in four days, the No. 1 nationally ranked Varsity Blues field hockey team defeated the No. 3 York Lions by a final score of 2-0 on Saturday (Oct. 7) afternoon at Back Campus Fields.

The Blues were determined to split the season series with their GTA rivals after dropping a road contest at York on Wednesday.

The bounce back was nearly immediate as following game start Toronto took just 120 seconds to tally the opening goal of the game via a hard shot from McKinley Kennedy.

Keeping up the momentum, the Blues added another at the 10 minute mark as Alicia Lung converted a penalty corner to put U of T ahead by two.

The Lions looked to respond, but strong goalie play from Deepi Gill and several possession controlling runs in the midfield from Maggie Mullins and Madeline Skeans secured the victory and shut out of their nationally ranked opponents.

The Blues will conclude their OUA regular season schedule next weekend, hosting McGill for a pair of matches on Back Campus Field on Saturday (Oct. 14) and Sunday (Oct. 15). Action begins on Saturday at 4 p.m.
