The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's lacrosse team begin competition at the OUA Championship this Friday, Oct. 27 in Kingston.
The Blues open the provincial showcase with round robin matches versus the Trent Excalibur and Brock Badgers.
Toronto concluded their regular season schedule with a 5-6 record, peaking late in their schedule with four of their five wins coming in the month of October. With their offence igniting as the season shifted to fall, the Blues tallied a total of 84 goals across their final seven regular season contests, averaging an impressive 12 goals per match during that stretch.
U of T have received outstanding play from the midfield duo of Rheanna Swanson and Rylin Cormier all season long.
A facilitator and scorer in the midfield, Cormier has registered a team-leading 34 goals this season, along with a number of timely assists of which Swanson has been a primary beneficiary. A highlight for Cormier this season came in the Blues 22-7 win over Brock on Oct. 14, when she scored a season-high eight goals and four assists.
Meanwhile, Swanson has been a scoring machine for the Blues, with the second-year athlete tallying 32 goals across 11 games played, including recording a season-high six goals twice in wins over Brock and Ontario Tech.
Toronto has also seen additional outstanding performances from third-year middie Lily Brooks, first-year standout Alexei Dokis-Dupuis and in goal from Elizabeth McDonald.
The Blues will be looking to match or better their result from a year ago when they finished fifth overall at the OUA Championship following a 1-1 round robin record, and 11-8 consolation victory over Laurier. The last provincial medal for Toronto also came with a win over the Golden Hawks in a bronze medal match in 2017.
Action begins late Friday (Oct. 27) afternoon at 4:45 p.m. against Trent, followed by an early Saturday (Oct. 28) morning match versus Brock.
