The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's curling team is set to compete at the 2023 OUA championship, February 3-5, at Oshawa Golf & Country Club.
The Blues open the championship against the McMaster Marauders on Friday morning, before facing off against the Algoma Thunderbirds on Friday afternoon. Toronto will wrap up pool play versus the Laurier Golden Hawks and York Lions on Saturday. Quarter-finals are scheduled for Saturday night, with semifinals and medal matches slated for Sunday.
Led by first-year skip Janice Pang, the Blues will look to improve upon their 1-3 record at the 2022 championship last season.
"With a couple of new players coming out this year, we have been juggling a few people around to find the best fit," said Varsity Blues associate head coach Susan Baird. "I feel we have just hit our stride as the OUA championship approach, and our goal is to qualify for the playoffs. No doubt the competition is tough, and we will have to play well and play smart."
The Blues have steadily improved since their first bonspiel at the Guelph Invitational in November. Since then, Toronto has gone 5-7 against OUA competition.
Pang, a PhD candidate in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering, will look to vice Abby De Joseph, lead and team captain Danielle Serra and second Sara Cumby to help the Blues reach the playoff round for the first time since the 2019-20 season.
