The University of Toronto Varsity Blues badminton team won their sixth consecutive provincial banner at the 2022 OUA championship on Sunday afternoon (Mar. 6) in Waterloo.

"Every point matters and today on our team proved this. Each person persevered during the tight sets we played," said veteran Deborah Rebello.
Third-year athlete Michael Farrell reflected on the victory.
"We had a lot of tough competition this year including Olympic athletes, but we managed to push through because we have great team spirit."
Toronto went a perfect 3-0 in pool play, with wins over Guelph (8-2), Ottawa (9-1) and McMaster (6-4). In the quarterfinal round, then Blues topped the Rams 6-0.
The Blues then took down the hosts, Waterloo Warriors 6-3 in the semifinal, setting up an OUA gold-medal match with fellow Toronto school, the York Lions.
In the gold medal final, the Blues defeated the York Lions by tiebreaker as both teams won five matches apiece.
Jackie Yeung won his fourth-straight OUA coach of the year award.
Katie Ho-Shue, Rebeca Lee, Deborah Rebello, Jonathan Lai and Michael Farrell earned OUA all-star honours.
