The Varsity Blues men's squash team earned their best finish at the OUA championships since 2016, capturing the silver medal in St. Catherines, Ont.
In round-robin play, the Blues went 3-0, blanking the McMaster Marauders and Brock Badgers, while also defeating the Waterloo Warriors 6-1.
With their 3-0 record the Blues would end up in the semifinal, taking on the Guelph Gryphons. In the semifinal, each of the Blues seven would sweep their opponents in their individual matches.
In the final, the Blues ran into the juggernaut Western Mustangs who were going for their 38th straight title. Michael McCue and Ali Shalaby were a formidable 1-2 punch sweeping their Mustang opponents. It was not enough on this day as the Blues would fall to the Mustangs 5-2, giving Western their 38th championship.
McCue had an OUA championships debut to remember, sweeping every single match on the weekend. For his performance, the Sudbury, Ont., product would earn the OUA men's squash MVP.
John Lennard received the men's OUA Coach of the Year award, while McCue and fellow rookie Ali Shalaby earned all-star laurels.
