The Varsity Blues men's water polo program reached new heights Sunday afternoon in Hamilton, Ont.
Defeating the Carleton Ravens 24-4 in the 2022 OUA championship, the Blues won their sixth consecutive OUA banner, setting a new program record, surpassing the Blues previous mark of five straight titles between 1949 and 1953.
Intent on writing themselves into the U of T history books, the Blues wasted no time establishing control of the match. Scoring six times in the opening quarter, Toronto jumped out to a 6-1 lead through one. Increasing their leading heading into the half, the Blues tacked on five more goals to go up 11-1. In the third, the Ravens were able break through the Blues defence a few times, scoring three goals. However, the Blues were able to add five themselves to take a 16-4 lead into the final quarter. Continuing to apply the pressure, Toronto found the back of the net eight times in the fourth to round out the scoring .
Leading Toronto to their sixth straight conference banner, Patrick Conn fired home seven goals for the Blues. Marco Ricci recorded four goals for Toronto. Diego Gonzalez Delgado pitched in three markers, while Bruno Marunica, Timmy Pourkazemi and Richard Laurie all scored twice. Aidan Principe, Cameron Hexter and James Glaser each added singles for Toronto.
