BLUES KICK OFF SEASON IN GUELPH

The U of T women's curling team got off to a tough start in their season opening event in Guelph, Ont., over the weekend dropping all three games. They faced some top-notch competition, difficult ice conditions and were plagued by some team health issues making the day a difficult one.

First-year, Janice Pang, jumped into the role of skip for the event. Pang had previously stepped away from the competitive game for a few years and just came back this season with the Blues while doing post-graduate work at U of T. The team battled the conditions but eventually conceded a 9-4 loss to the host Gryphons.

Game two, saw the Blues face another tough team in Brock. U of T missed out on some scoring opportunities, but their opposition didn't and dropped a 8-1 decision in six ends.

The final game of the day had two-sport-athlete, Sara Cumby (Varsity Blues golf) taking on skipping duties against a very experienced TMU squad. TMU held control of the match throughout. The Blues did have a shot at a score of three in the fourth-end but a key double by the TMU skip erased the chance to get back into the game. The game ended 9-1 in favour of the Bold.

Coach Susan Baird had this to say about the event, "As a developing squad, the U of T team relishes the opportunity to play these top-notch teams to learn and develop our skills. We are looking forward to our next opportunity for growth at our U of T Bonspiel on December 3rd.
