Box Score The No. 2 University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team defeated the McGill Marlets by a score of 7-0 at Toronto's Back Campus Fields on Sunday, October 2.
With the win, the Blues sit second-place position in the OUA East division with a record of 4-0-1. The Blues hold a game in hand over the first-place No. 3 York Lions (4-1-1).
HOW IT HAPPENED: Blues third-year forward Sam McCrory scored three goals in the first seven minutes of action. McCrory opened her account off a penalty stroke three minutes into the game. The Kitchener, Ont. native scored back-to-back goals in the sixth and seventh minutes to cap off her three-goal quarter.
Second-year midfielder McKinley Kennedy opened the scoring for the Blues in the second-quarter, burying a rebound off a penalty corner. McCrory wasn't far behind, recording her fourth goal of the game in the 27th minute.
McCrory continued her form in the third-quarter, scoring in the 35th minute. The third-year forward would secure her second-straight five goal performance in the process.
First-year forward Elizabeth Assimes extended the Blues lead in the 57th minute to score Toronto's seventh and final goal.
Third-year goalie Deepi Gill earned the win in net for the Blues.
