Box Score The No. 2 University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team downed the McGill Marlets 9-1 at Toronto's Back Campus Fields on Saturday, October 1.
With the win, the Blues hold their second-place position in the OUA East division with a record of 3-0-1. The Blues hold two games in hand over the first-place No. 3 York Lions (4-1-1).
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â The Blues opened the scoring in the third minute as third-year forward Sam McCrory scored her first of a five-goal performance. Ten minutes later, second-year midfielder Sophia De Uria opened her account with the Blues to double Toronto's lead.
The second-quarter saw the Blues dominance continue. McCrory scored the Blues third of the game just one minute into the quarter. First-year forward Elizabeth Assimes added to the Blues lead for their fourth, before McCrory scored her third of the game to extend the Blues lead to five. The Marlets would score their lone goal of the game through forward Sandme Brien to close out the half.
McCrory's outstanding performance continued well into the third-quarter. The Kitchener, Ont. native opened the scoring for the Blues in the 36th minute. Five minutes later, fifth-year midfielder Emily Ziraldo extended the Blues lead to six. In the 45th minute, McCrory recorded her fifth and final goal, burying a rebound off a penalty corner.
Wednesday night standout, Molly Koop capped off the Blues scoring in the 47th minute.
Third-year goalie Deepi Gill earned the win in net for the Blues.
