BLUES HOLD OFF WARRIORS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's rugby team got their second win of the season, defeating the Waterloo Warriors 22-19 on Friday, October 8 at Varsity Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Warriors opened the scoring early with a Faye O-Brien try.

Toronto provided strong defence in the first as the Warriors had multiple chances near the goal line but could not capitalize. The Blues trailed 7-0 at halftime.

U of T started out hot in the second half as Liane Catibog and Mary Adewa scored tries in the 47th and 53rd minutes, respectively, to take the lead. Waterloo came back with a try of their own in the 57th minute followed up by a Philly Reid convert to take back the lead, 14-12.

Catibog powered her way in for a try in the 64th minute to reclaim the advantage for the Blues. Toronto was able to seal the game in the 72nd minute with a try from second-year fullback/centre Ella Tetrault, who also kicked a convert in the victory.

Waterloo narrowed the gap late with a Ben Skinner try but it wasn't enough.

UP NEXT: The Blues will travel to Peterborough to take on the Trent Excalibur for the final game of the regular season on Saturday, October 16.
