The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's rugby team earned their first win of the season as they defeated the Laurier Golden Hawks 40-5 on Friday, October 1 at Varsity Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED: 2019 OUA all-star Idara Okon scored two tries on Friday night in the 40th and 78th minutes, respectively, while Ella Tetrault scored one try and added five converts in the win. Â
Second-year prop Liane Catibog opened the scoring as the Blues secured their first try of the season in the 26th minute.Â
The Blues capped off a stellar first half as a Katherine Norton try gave U of T a 19-0 halftime lead.Â
Rounding out the scoring for the Blues was rookie Mary Adewa as she helped Toronto cruise to a 40-5 victory.Â
Laurier's Sara Armstrong spoiled the shutout by scoring in the final minute.Â
UP NEXT: The Blues will take on the Waterloo Warriors next Friday, October 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Varsity Stadium.
