The Varsity Blues badminton team won their fifth straight provincial banner on home court as the 2020 OUA championship wrapped up on Sunday afternoon (March 1) at the University of Toronto's Athletic Centre.

U of T proved to be too much for the previously-unbeaten Western Mustangs, claiming a 6-2 victory to seal Toronto's eighth OUA title since 1997 and sixth in the last eight seasons.

The Waterloo Warriors finished third overall with a 6-1 win over the Ottawa Gee-Gees in the bronze-medal match. The McMaster Marauders topped the Ryerson Rams, 6-2, in Sunday morning action to place fifth overall.

Western's Anthony D'Souza and Toronto's Bethany So went undefeated over the three-day tournament and were named the male and female most valuable players.

First-year standouts Stanley Feng of Western and Sherry Wu of Waterloo earned rookie of the year honours, while U of T's Jackie Yeung was named the OUA coach of the year for the third straight season.
