FIGURE SKATING’S DRIVE FOR FIVE STARTS MONDAY

The reigning champion University of Toronto Varsity Blues figure skating team is set for the 2020 OUA championship, February 10-11, at Ryerson University.

The Blues will be vying for their fifth-straight OUA banner and return numerous medalists from last season's squad. Toronto reached the podium in 13-of-14 events at the 2019 championship, including four gold medal finishes.  U of T also finished first at both the Fall and Winter Invitationals this season.

Fourth-year veteran Keiko Marshall looks to defend her OUA title in the novice short program and she will pair up with Melanie Zavitski in the senior similar pairs. Zavitski was golden in that event last year with former Blue Morgan Garland. Marshall and Zavitski will also team up with Felicia Bonitatibus and Erin Ng in the pair four.

Emma Jianopolous, Stephanie Carroll, Hanna Broker and Jessica Reid look for their second straight dance fours title. Carroll and Jianopolous will look to improve upon their silver-medal finish in the Star 10 similar dance, while Broker and Reid will also be vying for the top spot in the open rhythm dance after a second-place finish at last year's OUA championship.

Jianopolous, who earned OUA peak performer honours following the Winter Invitational, will round out a busy two-day event in the gold solo dance. She claimed a silver medal in that event last season.

Toronto's synchro team will also be looking for their second consecutive first-place finish next week.

Fifth-year standout Chyna Hui is set to compete in the star 10 solo dance and will pair up with Zavitski in the Star 8/9 similar dance as well. Hui has 11 OUA podium finishes to her name, including five gold-medal performances.

First-year Varsity Blues Jennifer Parker, Katherine Mitchell and Joshua Allen are set to compete in the gold freeskate, Star 10 freeskate and open men's freeskate, respectively, while Chloe Zhao and Gloria Gao will skate in the intermediate similar pairs.
