BADMINTON SET FOR TITLE DEFENCE ON HOME COURT

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues are the proud hosts of the 2020 OUA badminton championship, February 28-March 1, at the Athletic Centre.

The Blues are the four-time reigning champions and will begin their drive for five on Friday afternoon. The three-day event is free and open to the public. Live results will be available.

Toronto opens the championship versus the Queen's Gaels at 1 p.m., and wraps up pool play at 5 p.m., versus the Ryerson Rams. The winner of Pool A will advance straight to the semifinals on Saturday at 5 p.m., with the championships wrapping up on Sunday with placement matches beginning at 9 a.m.

The Blues return six OUA all-stars from last season's championships team, with four-time OUA female most valuable player Bethany So leading the way. The six-time OUA all-star is undefeated over the past three championships and will look to continue that streak on home court.

Sophomore standout Katie Ho-Shue, who earned OUA female rookie of the year honours last season, also returns and will look to fellow OUA all-star Giselle Chan to help steer the Blues in the right direction.

2018-19 OUA male most valuable player Jonathan Lai, along with two-time OUA all-star Marcus Waskiw-Ford are back to lead the Blues men. They, along with 2018-19 OUA all-star Jack Lin and last year's OUA male rookie of the year Michael Farrell, will look to dominate the field once again this season.
