The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's water polo team opened their 2019 season at the 2019 Laker Invitational at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Penn.
The weekend started with a tough loss to a great up and coming team out of California, Mt. Sac, narrowly falling 13-11. In a tough second game later that afternoon, the Blues went toe-to-toe with one of the top teams at the tournament, Gannon University. Unfortunately, came up just short in a 16-12 loss.
The Blues rebounded on Sunday morning with a big win over the host Mercyhurst Lakers, 13-5. In the final game of the weekend, the Blues were tested by a Salem University team that would not go away on the scoreboard. Although it was a fight to the end, the Blues managed to get the win 20-11.
Leading the way for the Blues in scoring was first-year standout Diego Gonzalez.
