The University of Toronto Varsity Blues figure skating team won the 2019 OUA banner in thrilling fashion as the provincial championship wrapped up on Wednesday evening (Feb. 13) in Kingston, Ont.
Leading the Western Mustangs by only four points heading into the final team synchro event, the Blues were calm under pressure and won the event to seal the overall victory.
The Blues finished with 100 points, nine points ahead of the Mustangs (91).
Toronto medaled in 13-of-14 events over the two-day championship, including four gold-medal victories. Keiko Marshall, Morgan Garland, Melanie Zavitski, Emma Jianopolous, Stephanie Carroll, Hanna Broker and Jessica Reid all earned OUA all-star honours.Â
Also winning gold on Day 2 was Emma Jianopolous, Stephanie Carroll, Hannah Broker and Jessica Reid, who took the top spot in the dance fours.
Broker and Reid also claimed the OUA silver medal in the open rhythm dance, while Rachel Greben was second in the gold freeskate.
Gloria Gao rounded out the Day 2 podium finishes with a third-place standing in the star 10 freeskate.
