The University of Toronto Varsity Blues badminton team heads to Oshawa, Ont., in search of their fourth straight provincial title at the 2019 OUA championship, presented by Canuck Stuff, February 15-17, hosted by UOIT.
Three-time OUA most valuable player Bethany So will look to lead the Blues to their fifth OUA banner in the past seven seasons. The five-time OUA all-star went undefeated for the second-straight year at last season's OUA championship.
Fellow veterans Giselle Chan and Vivian Kwok are also expected to lead the dominant Blues squad this weekend. Both Chan and Kwok have been named OUA all-stars for the Blues for the past two seasons.
Rookie standout Katie Ho-Shue is also a Varsity Blues to watch for as she makes her OUA championship debut this weekend.
Leading the men's events will be Marcus Waskiw-Ford and Johnathan Lai.
Waskiw-Ford went undefeated at last year's OUA championship en route to all-star honours. The Montreal native won every men's singles match her competed in, while also pairing with Chan to go a perfect 5-0 in mixed doubles.
Lai makes his return after a one-year hiatus. He earned both OUA rookie of the year and all-star honours at the 2017 championship.
The round robin matches between the 10 squads get served up over the first day and a half of competition, starting at 9:15am on Friday, February 15 and wrapping up with the 1:00pm matches the following day. Knockout rounds and championship matches will wrap up the festivities from there, with the banners being doled out on Sunday, February 17.
