SECOND HALF SURGE PROPELS BLUES TO VICTORY

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team recorded their first exhibition win of the season, besting the Victoria Vikes 71-66 on Sunday, October 6 at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Blues fell behind at the end of the first, but outscored the Vikes in the second quarter to put the teams level at halftime.
 
In the third quarter, Toronto took a commanding lead, with Ellen Ougrinov and Christine Jurcau lighting it up from behind the arc. The Blues outscored the Vikes by nine to make the score 56-47 going into the fourth.
 
Despite an early push by the Vikes in the fourth quarter, the Blues stayed composed and held out for an impressive victory.
 
Jurcau and Nada Radonjic led the Blues scoring with 17 points each. Ougrinov and Sarah Bennett were also in double digits, scoring 15 and 11 points, respectively. Bennett led Toronto's rebounding with six, while Ougrinov and Jurcau led in assists, recording three each.

UP NEXT: The Blues are back in exhibition action at home on Thursday, October 10, as they host the St. Francis Xavier X-Women. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
