TORONTO TRIPPED UP IN SECOND HALF AT BROCK

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team fell 89-54 versus the Brock Badgers on Saturday (Oct. 31) in St. Catharines.

The Blues came out with a strong start, taking an early 6-2 lead. Holding their own throughout long stretches of the first half, the Blues shot 45 per cent from the field and over 30 per cent from behind the three point line through the first two quarters. This efficiency would keep the game close as Toronto entered the break down by just three. However, following halftime the home side Badgers found their shooting form and with nine field goals in the third quarter they would pull away. The Blue and White would continue to battle collecting 37 rebounds, just five shy of Brock's 42. This included nine offensive boards that helped generate eight second-chance points. The gap would prove to be just too much for the Blues to overcome.

Leading the way for Toronto in the road contest was fifth-year forward Janet Enge. Pacing the Blues offence, she would finish with a game-high 20 points while adding 12 rebounds for a double-double. First-year forward Quincie Szego also continued her strong start to the season, putting up 14 points to surpass her previous day's 11-point performance at McMaster. Third-year guard Diana Comsa added another eight points for the Blue and White, finishing 4-for-5 in 10 minutes of action.

For Brock, the outside shooting came to life in the second half as the home team would finish with 10 three-point field goals made. Hailey Fennema led the way with Badgers with a game-high 20 points, while Ava Stranges added 14 points to help secure the win.

The Blues will now begin a six-game homestand at Goldring Centre starting with the annual Metro Hoops Classic. The first leg of the rivalry series with the TMU Bold is set for Wednesday, Nov. 4. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tickets for the home contest are available at varsityblues.ca/tickets. U of T students receive free entry with a valid T-Card. All OUA basketball games are also streamed live and on demand via oua.tv.
