BLUES TO BATTLE LAKERS IN ROUND 1

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team takes on the Nipissing Lakers in OUA playoff action this Wednesday, October 23 at Varsity Stadium.

Kick off is set for 5 p.m. The match is free and open to the public and will also be streamed live on OUA.tv.

Toronto's men finished the season in third place in the highly-competitive OUA East division with a 9-2-3 record, while the Lakers placed sixth with a 5-8-1 record. The Blues went 2-0 versus the Lakers during the regular season with a 3-2 home victory on Sept. 15 and a 2-0 win in North Bay on Oct. 6.

Should Toronto be victorious on Wednesday night, they would meet the second-seeded Ryerson Rams in a quarter-final match-up for the third straight season this Sunday night.

Fifth-year defender Koosha Nazemi led the Blues in scoring with six goals this season. The kinesiology major from Mississauga, Ont., scored once in each of Toronto's wins over the Lakers.

First-year midfielder Jacob Doroszkiewicz ranked second on the team with five goals, while both Nikola Stakic and Nicholas Osorio scored four times in 2019.

Stefan Dusciuc and Sebastian Sgarbossa have split duties in net, holding .800 and .839 save percentages, respectively.

Third-year veteran Jack Collins led the Lakers with six goals this season, while a trio of goalkeeper have made appearances in net for Nipissing.
