The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's rugby team had their season ended by the York Lions Saturday evening (Oct 12) after being defeated 32-21.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED: York commanded the scoreboard in the first half. They scored three tries, two conversions, and one penalty goal to give them a 22-0 lead.
Toronto wasn't ready to give up. The Blues would string together a run of their own starting with a try from Lauren Van Dyke and a conversion from Sara Canini. Nicole Butkovic followed up in the second half with a try and Canini scored another conversion. The Blues would then bring the score within one with a try from Khadi Dako and a third conversion from Canini.
The Blues comeback fell short, as the Lions shut them down for the remainder of the match. York would score two last tries to move on to the OUA consolation final.
