BLUES COME BACK FALLS SHORT

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's rugby team fell 38-27 to the Trent Excalibur on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 23) at Varsity Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Down 10-0, rookie Savannah Skeete got the Blues on the board with a try 20 minutes into the match. The Excalibur responded with a try and conversion of their own to take a 17-5 lead into halftime.

Stephanie Hovdestad closed the gap with two tries for the Blues in the first 13 minutes of the second half, but Trent answered the call each time. Lauren Van Dyke added a try and a convert, and Skeete scored her second try of the match to bring the game within four (31-27) in the dying minutes. The Excalibur added a final try and convert in the last minute to seal the victory.

UP NEXT: The Blues head into a bye week and await the remaining regular season games to determine their first-round playoff opponent.
