University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's badminton alumna Michelle Li placed fourth overall in women's singles action at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, April 4-15, in Gold Coast, Australia.

Li advanced to the women's singles final four with a 3-0 quarter-final victory over Malaysia's Soniia Cheah. She went onto drop a narrow 2-0 decision to India's Venkata Pusarla in the semifinals, before falling 2-0 to Scotland's Kirst Gilmour in the bronze-medal match. She, along with partner Brian Yang, also reached the Round of 32 in mixed doubles action.

Fellow former Varsity Blues Rachel Honderich and Brittany Tam also represented Canada in Gold Coast. Honderich reached the women's singles quarter-final round, falling 2-0 to India's Saina Nehwal, while also reaching the women's doubles Round of 16 with partner Kristen Tsai.

Tam also reached the women's singles quarter-final and, paired with Ty Lindeman, the mixed doubles Round of 16.

As a team, Li, Honderich and Tam helped Canada to a fifth-place finish, falling 3-0 to England in the mixed team quarter-finals.
