Â
The Blues finished second in the OUA East division with a 15-4 record. They capped off their season on a seven game-winning streak, only losing once in their final 10 matches. During that run, Toronto took down current playoff teams Western, Queen's, York, Waterloo and Guelph.
Â
Third-year right side Alina Dormann continues to be a huge catalyst for U of T. The life science major finished the regular season leading the OUA in kills per set (3.66) and sits second with 4.6 points per set. She has averaged over 15 kills per match in the last nine games.
Â
In Toronto's lone meeting against Guelph this season, Dormann was dominant. She post a career-high 23 kills for 26 points, only 0.5 short of her career-high, in a five set victory on the road.
Â
Fourth-year senior Anna Feore and rookie Jenna Woock are other Varsity Blues to watch in this contest. Both standouts registered over 2.7 points per set this season. Feore, who lines up on the opposite side of Dormann, sits second on the team in kills (2.31) and total attacks (8.05) per set.
Â
Freshman Rayn Perry stepped in as the main setter for Toronto in the latter half of the campaign. She missed the first half of the season due to injury, but she is averaging 9.23 assists per set in her last five matches.
Â
The Gryphons placed third in the OUA West division with a 9-10 record, but that disguises the current roll they are experiencing.
Â
Guelph's season was the definition of two completely different stories. They started the year on a five-game losing streak and went into the Christmas break with a 1-8 record. In the New Year, the Gyrphons were rejuvenated, posting an 8-2 record the rest of the way. The biggest reason for the sudden flip, was the return of middle blocker Libby Donevan.
Â
The fourth-year arts major has made an impact on both sides of the ball. She's posted over 16 points in seven of the 10 matches in 2018, which includes a 15 kill, eight block and 23 point performance against the Varsity Blues.
Â
The return of Donevan has open things up for left side hitter Michaela Hellinga. Hellinga has tallied over 20 points three times in 2018, and double-digits kills in seven of the last eight contests. Jessica Gormley and Hazal Atkins are additional threats for the Gryphons as they both averaged over 2.3 points per set.
