Second-year standout William Sati earned two bronze medals in leading the University of Toronto Varsity Blues rowing teams at the 2018 OUA championships on Friday, October 26 at the Royal Canadian Henley Rowing Course in St. Catharines, Ont.

Typically a two-day event, forecasted high winds forced regatta organizers to condense the racing schedule to one-day, with preliminary heats and championship finals on the same day separated by the Development (Novice and Junior Varsity) events. Despite the intense schedule – 69 races in one day – cool yet calm conditions provided the perfect environment for many close finishes.

Toronto's women placed seventh overall with 80 points, while the Blues men were eighth with 140 points.

Sati kicked off the day with a third-place finish in the men's lightweight single in 7:36.97. He went onto pair up with veteran Andrei Vovk to earn bronze in the lightweight double in 7:07.95.

Sophomores Chris Hill and Terek Been earned Toronto's other podium finish of the day. The duo placed third overall in the heavyweight double in 7:00.73.

U of T's women's eight boat of Lucy Lu, Megan Kamachi, Robyn Loves, Claire Kendall, Julia Toljagic, Emily Principe, Ray Ray Lau, Devin Ward and cox Zoe Tompson placed fifth overall, while the women's fours of Kendra Wells, Loves, Kamachi, Kendall and cox Thompson were also fifth.

Lau and Lu teamed up to finish fifth overall in the women's lightweight double, while three Toronto boats placed sixth overall. Devin Ward was sixth in the women's lightweight single, while U of T's men's fours of Esteban Poveda Torres, Matthew Chen, Alex King, Simon Plenderleith and cox Nir Vaswani also placed sixth.

U of T's men's eights of Alexander Marcopoulos, Chen, Poveda Torres, Rui Xu, King, Hill, Been, Plenderleith and cox Hannah Fronenberg finished sixth overall, with Emily Principe and Julia Toljagic finishing seventh in the women's double.
Rounding out U of T's results was Matthew McNeil with a ninth-place finish in the men's heavyweight single.

In addition, U of T's novice eights crew claimed the silver medal during the OUA Development Regatta and Andrew Johnston was named a co-recipient for OUA novice women's coach of the year.
