WOMEN'S ROWING FINISH THIRD; MEN PLACE FIFTH AT OUA CHAMPIONSHIPS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues rowing teams completed competition at the 2025 OUA Rowing Championships on Saturday (Oct. 25) at the Canadian Royal Henley Rowing Course in St. Catharines.

The event was highlighted by a bronze medal finish for the U of T women in the overall team results, marking the highest result for the women's team in 25 years.

Helping elevate the Blues women's team to the third podium was an individual gold in the LW8+ as the crew of Elizabeth Yeoh, Olivia Ruffolo, Marina Sobotka, Caitlin Terry, Emily Thompson, Sophie Corradini, Dayun Kong, Guinevere Reaume, and Jamie Blunt raced to a first-place time of 07:09.367. Additional Top 5 results for the U of T women came in the form of a pair of fourth-place finishes in the LW4+ (Amanda Liu; Olivia Ruffolo; Anastasija Petrovic; Caitlin Terry; Marina Sobotka) and LW2- (jamie blunt; Guinevere Reaume), along with a fifth-place finish in the LW2x (Sophie Corradini; Dayun Kong).

On the men's side of the competition, Toronto claimed a fifth-place finish in the overall standings of 14-team field.

The veteran duo of Lysander Weekes and Youssef El Mays earned another event medal for the Blues, crossing the line in third in the LW2x with a time of 07:04.816. U of T added fourth-place finishes in the LW4+ (Elizabeth Yeoh; Aaryan Patel; Youssef El Mays; Lysander Weekes; Yechan Kim) and LW8+ (Jack Edwards; Kenneth Kimmins; Shaan Jain; Sami Ahmed; Charlie Kozar; Simon Katkov; Aaryan Patel; Simon Bettle; Liam McFarland). The Blues men also earned a trio of fifth-place results in the M1x (Jack Bon), M2- (Richard Magony, Sebastien Psarianos) and M8+ (Peter Hansen; Aleksander Budzinski; Andrew Gordienko; Cole Hilmer; Aref Alkouatli; Kalan Couch; Richard Magony; Sebastien Psarianos; Jack Bon)

Following the provincial showcase, the Blues rowing team will next travel to Montreal for the annual Canadian University Rowing Championships (CURC) taking place from Nov. 1-2.
