The University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 (3-2 shootout) decision to the Guelph Gryphons in OUA semi-final action on Saturday, October 27 in Waterloo.
With the loss, the Blues will take on the host Waterloo Warriors in the bronze-medal match tomorrow (Oct. 28) at 1 p.m.
The Gryphons opened the scoring early, scoring off a penalty corner in the 12th minute of the match. Toronto responded though as Rachel Spouge scored off a corner opportunity in the 28th minute and the two teams remained deadlocked at 1-1 at halftime.
A tense second half saw both teams trade chances to score, but neither could break the tie as the game headed into a shootout.
2018 OUA rookie of the year Rebecca Carvalho and sophomore standout Isabella Watson scored for the Blues in the shootout loss.
