The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team will square off against the Ryerson Rams in OUA quarter-final action this Sunday, October 28 at Downsview Park at 7:00 p.m.
The two teams are familiar foes in the postseason of late. Over the past seven seasons, Toronto has gone 4-2 against Ryerson in the playoffs, with four matches needing extra time, and three going to penalty kicks to determine a winner.
Last season, with the tables turned, the Rams eliminated the Blues from playoff contention in quarter-final action on home turf. U of T looks to return the favour on Sunday night.
The third-seeded Blues advanced to the quarter-final round after their 1-0 extra time win over the Laurentian Voyageurs on Wednesday night. Fourth-year striker Jack Wadden broke the deadlock in the 110th minute, finishing off a nice tic-tac-toe play with Yousef Helmy and Nikola Stakic, to lift U of T to victory.
The Rams are coming off a first-round bye after finishing the season with a 14-1-1 record, in second place in the OUA East division.
If the Blues emerge victorious in this tilt, they will advance to the OUA Final Four, hosted by the top remaining seed in the East, next weekend.
