FIELD HOCKEY BLANKS MARTLETS, ADVANCES TO OUA SEMIFINALS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team topped the McGill Martlets 4-0 in OUA quarter-final action on Friday, October 26 in Waterloo, Ont.

The Blues will face the third seeded Guelph Gryphons, who defeated the Western Mustangs 3-0 in their quarter-final, in semi-final action tomorrow at 11 a.m.

Toronto wasted no time as fourth-year midfielder Hilary Ziraldo scored what would stand as the game-winner on a reverse shot in the sixth minute of the game.

2018 OUA player of the year Emily Ziraldo then put the Blues up by two off a reverse backhand on a penalty corner opportunity and Toronto was up 2-0.

Sophomore standout Anna Costanzo earned a penalty stroke for Toronto in the 41st minute and Emily Ziraldo potted her second of the game. Costanzo then scored off a penalty corner to round out the 4-0 victory.

Third-year goalie Elizabeth O'Hara started and Sara Fredo came in the 62nd minute to earn the shut out in net.
