The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team takes on the Laurentian Voyageurs in a must-win OUA playoff match-up on Wednesday, October 24 at Varsity Stadium.
The match is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m., and is free and open to the public. It will also be streamed live on OUA.tv.
Toronto finished the regular season with an 11-4-1 record and in third place in the highly-competitive OUA East division. The Blues ended the season on a hot streak, going 8-1-1 in their final 10 matches.
The sixth-place Voyageurs capped off 2018 with a 5-9-2 record. They also ended the season on a positive upswing, going 3-2-1 in their last seven matches.
Toronto took the season series, 1-0-1, over Laurentian. The Blues notched a 2-0 clean sheet victory on Sept. 22 in Sudbury before the two teams played to a 2-2 draw in their regular season finale this past Sunday.
"Our expectation is to earn the win on our home field on Wednesday night," said Varsity Blues head coach Anthony Capotosto. "Our starters will be fully rested for this playoff game and we will be fielding a completely different team than that of Sunday night's match vs Laurentian."
Three Blues have contributed to over half of the team's offence this season. Second-year midfielder Anthony Sousa led U of T with nine regular season goals, including four game-winners. Veteran forwards Jack Wadden and Jae Jin Lee added six and seven goals, respectively.
A Toronto victory on Wednesday night would advance the squad to the OUA quarter-final round, where they would take on the second-place Ryerson Rams on Sunday at 7 p.m., at Downsview Park.
