BENNETT HOLDS HOT HAND IN LOSS TO VOYAGEURS

Box Score Third-year forward Sarah Bennett's career-high 25 points wasn't enough as the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team dropped an 82-76 road decision to the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday, January 13.
 
With the loss, the Blues drop to 5-9 and remain in sixth place, while the Voyageurs improve to 3-10 and move into sole possession of seventh in the OUA East division.
 
Bennett went 12-for-17 from the floor, while adding eight rebounds and two assists on the night. Three other Blues hit double digits as sophomore Nada Radonjic recorded a career-high 14 points and added eight boards. Rahshida Aktinson also had 14 points, while fellow fifth-year veteran Emily Piccini had a season-high 11 points in the loss.
 
Toronto got off to a slow start, trailing Laurentian 12-4 midway through the first quarter. The Blues battled back though and two three-pointers from Atkinson and Radonjic evened the game at 14-14. The Voyageurs took a one-point lead (17-16) into the second quarter.
 
Bennett then gained the hot hand, scoring 10 second-quarter points for the Blues to give Toronto a 33-27 advantage at halftime.
 
Laurentian answered the call in the third quarter, outscoring the Blues 36-22, to take the lead for good. The Blues attempted to rally in the fourth, bringing the game within seven, but were unable to complete the comeback.
 
L'Ashante Henry led the Voyageurs with a double-double of 19 points and 10 boards in the victory.
 
The Varsity Blues return to the court next Friday, January 19 as they host the York Lions at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport. The Blues then host the Queen's Gaels in their 11th annual Think Pink, #BleedBlue game on Saturday, January 20. Tip off on both nights is 6 p.m.
