The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's rugby team picked up their first win of the season in a dominating 41-0 shutout performance versus the Waterloo Warriors Saturday night (Sept. 9) at Varsity Stadium.
This marks the first shutout victory for the Blues since 2009 when they defeated the York Lions 12-0, and the first win over Waterloo since 2011 when they dropped the Warriors in a tight matchup 34-29.
U of T controlled possession throughout a majority of the 80 minute contest, applying offensive pressure that saw four different Blues record tries, while also stifling the Warriors attack with strong physical defence
Third-year sensation Jordyn Orlando opened the scoring for the Blues in the fourth minute with an incredible zig-zagging run through the Warriors defence for a quick try.
Â
Second-year wing Khadi Dako followed that up with her first of three tries just five minutes later as her speed was unmatched on the night.
2016 OUA all-star Lauren Van Dyke extended the Blues lead in the 25th minute with a strong drive for a try, followed by Dako's second of the night just before half to make it a 24-0 lead at the break.
The Varsity Blues didn't let up with Van Dyke and Dako both adding to U of T's lead to open the second half.
Toronto's scoring was rounded out by second-year Toronto native Robyn Feraday who powered her way into the endzone in the 73rd minute.
Second-year prop Monika Hirsch scored three conversions for the Blues on the night.
The Blue and White return to the pitch next on Saturday, September 23 when they will travel to challenge the Trent Excalibur. Kick off is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Peterborough, Ont.
