The University of Toronto Varsity Blues rowing team collected three silver medals at this past weekends (Sept. 16) Western Invitational Regatta.
Fifth-year veteran Andrei Vovk earned two silver medals, claiming the second step individually in the men's lightweight single before joining teammates Kamran Ramji, Simon Plenderleith, Terek Been, Chris Hill, Esteban Poveda, Alex King, Matt Chen, and Will Sati to claim second in the men's heavyweight eight.
On the women's side, the crew of Kaiwen Zhang, Lauren Richardson, Megan Kamachi, Robyn Loves, Claire Kendall, Kendra Wells, Louise Castonguay, Julia Toljagic, and Emily Principe raced to a silver medal performance in the women's heavyweight eight.
"It was a great day with beautiful conditions on Lake Fanshawe," said fourth-year veteran Castonguay. "It was the first varsity race for a lot of our rookies and last year's novice athletes, so all in all a great way to start the season."
The Varsity Blues next compete at the annual Head of the Trent Regatta in Peterborough, Ont., on Saturday, September 30.
