U OF T STIFLED BY NO. 7 MCMASTER

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team fell 71-41 to the visiting No. 7 McMaster Marauders on Saturday night (Nov. 11) at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.

The Blue and White were stifled by the Marauders defence throughout, shooting just 28 percent from the floor, while being out-rebounded 56-44. U of T's defence did respond in the second, holding McMaster to under 20 percent shooting, but without an offensive burst Toronto could not create a run to catch their nationally ranked opponents.

Veterans Emily Piccini and Rahshida Atkinson led the Blues with nine points apiece. Third-year forward Sarah Bennett showed a spark for U of T in the paint picking up eight points, six rebounds and two steals.

The Marauders were paced by four double-digit performances with Sarah Gates recording a game-high 16 points along with six rebounds.

The Varsity Blues hit the road to challenge the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday, November 18. Tip off is scheduled for 1 p.m. with the game being streamed live on OUA.tv.
