Box Score The No. 7 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team dropped a 4-3 decision to the Ryerson Rams on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 7) at Varsity Stadium.
Â
The loss marks Toronto's first of the season, but they remain in second place in the OUA East division with a 7-1-4 record. Ryerson improves to 5-6-1 and moves into third place.
Â
Ryerson took an early lead with a goal from Andrew Dias in the eighth minute of the match.
Â
Fifth-year Rams forward Nick Lambis scored back-to-back goals in the 30th and 35th minutes to put Ryerson up 3-0; Â however, the Blues broke onto the score sheet with a goal from veteran striker Nirun Sivananthan just before the first half ended.
Â
The Blues brought the match within one in the 62nd minute. Toronto's Marko Mandekic took a great free kick that Jack Wadden would finish by volleying the ball past Ryerson goalie Praveen Ahilan.
Â
But, Ryerson's Raheem Rose would score in the 87th minute to put his team up 4-2.
Â
Not going down without a fight, Sivananthan scored his second of the match to bring the game back within one in the 90th minute, but it wouldn't be enough to over take the Rams.
The Varsity Blues are back in action next Saturday, October 14 when they travel to North Bay to take on the Nipissing Lakers. Game time is set for 2:15 p.m.
