Box Score It was a tale of two halves as the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team dropped a 73-61 decision to the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Saturday, January 7 at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.

With the loss, the Blues drop to 5-5 and remain in third place in the OUA East division, while Lakehead improves to 3-6 and sit second in the Central division.

Toronto shot 48% from the floor through the first half to take a 38-30 lead at the midway point of the game; however, Lakehead came alive, outscoring the Blues 20-6 in the third quarter to build an advantage that would not diminish.

The Thunderwolves opened the fourth quarter on a 13-2 run, and despite a Toronto rally for a 9-2 streak, the Blues were unable to come back. Â

Fourth-year forward Diedre Edwards led the Blues with 14 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals, while fifth-year veteran Alanna Garner notched 12 points and six boards on the night.

Sophomore standout Charlotte Collyer added 10 points and seven rebounds, with Keyira Parkes tallying eight points, three boards, two steals and two assists in the loss.

Five Thunderwolves hit double digits with August Ricketts and Gillian Lavoie each tallying a game-high 15 points in the win.

The Varsity Blues are back in action next Friday, January 13 as they travel north to take on the York Lions in a School Day game. Tip off is scheduled for 11 a.m.
