MEN'S SOCCER RETURNS HOME SUNDAY

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team is set to return home to Varsity Stadium this Sunday (Oct. 2) to take on the Nipissing Lakers, following the final matchup in their four-game roadtrip this Saturday, October 1 against the Trent Excalibur.

Sunday's contest will be streamed live on OUA.tv.

The Blues have enjoyed their time away from Varsity Stadium riding a three-game win streak, placing them in third place in the OUA East with a 6-1-2 record. Over this stretch U of T has experienced an offensive resurgence outscoring their opponents 12-1 through their trio of big victories.

Toronto leading scorer Antonio Ajhert notched two more this past Sunday in the Blues big 5-0 victory over the Queen's Gales, lifting Ajhert into a tie for sixth in the OUA with five goals this season, just one goal behind a pack of five who lead the province with six.

Captain Lukas MacNaughton has also benefitted from the roadtrip riding a three game goal streak. The fourth-year veteran will be looking to continue his road success before the return home Sunday, while also anchoring U of T's stout defence which ranks second in the province having only allowed four goals through nine games this season.

Blues goalkeeper Mark Rogal has delivered in net, leading the province with five clean-sheets and ranks third in the province with a .897 save percentage on 35 saves made.

Meanwhile, their opponents this Sunday have had less success on either end of the pitch.

Holding a 1-6-1 record placing them in eighth in the OUA East, the Lakers have allowed the fourth most goals in the province averaging opponents three goals per contest.

Goalkeeper Grainger Munro has found himself under-fire, being forced to make 45 saves in six games played thus far this season.

Offensively, only one Nipissing player has registered eight or more shots on net. First-year forward Ryan Roy currently leads the Lakers with two goals scored this season.

Following their return home agains the Lakers, the Blues will remain at Varsity Stadium for back-to-back matches with the RMC Paladins and Queen's Gaels next Saturday and Sunday. Both contests kickoff at 2:15 p.m. with U of T's Saturday showdown with RMC being streamed live on OUA.tv.
